R. Crumb The Way of All Flesh/Go for the Gold! Placemat Drawing (2002)
Amazing, how Crumb can draw in liquid ink on quilted, absorbent paper without getting ink bleed lines all over the surface. He does so, time and again, while waiting for service at this restaurant or that. Many people will doodle on placemats -- but Crumb does so with a delicate touch and invariably artistic results. This example satirizes the meat-packing and food-service industries in no uncertain terms. Mechanical-pen ink on porous napkin-type paper.
